Created from scratch here in my studio! This rug has been hand-tufted and hand-sculpted by me. One of my large ‘Mae’ flowers graces this rug.
My process: I stretch tufting cloth snugly on a rug frame (built by my son!). I will either hand-draw or copy an image I’ve created onto the cloth. Using an electric tufting machine, I begin tufting the actual rug design, often changing colors as I go. Watching a rug being formed before my eyes is a quite a satisfying process.
There are two common types of rugs that I make. First, there is a loop pile yarn rug, where the yarn is looped continuously through the fabric. This gives the rug a bumpy or nubby texture to it. Think about berber carpet as an example.
The other is a cut pile rug. When tufting, the loops are cut at the top, creating individual tufts instead of bumps. Think of plush carpet as an example. This type of rug also allows me the option to add extra depth and character by hand-sculpting with shears and/or scissors.
This rug is a cut pile rug.
Measuring 24” x 31”, this rug is made of 100% acrylic yarn with a non-slip backing. The back is outlined in a cotton twill to help create clean lines.
It is common for rugs to ‘shed’ for the first several weeks as there may still be some loose fibers from the creation of the rug.
Spot clean only. Do not wash in washing machine or place in dryer.
